Day 1
The construction permit is displayed as required by law. The deck, which will be demo'd first is completely free of belongings, the azaleas have been moved, and many of the worms have been relocated to Katie and Andrew's safe house, erected over the weekend. I stood on the deck this morning and remembered all of the parties we have had. In the warm weather we'd sit out there for hours, either by ourselves or with friends, enjoying some wine and the bats. In the cold, dark we'd let the kids go outside right before bed to check out the moon and the stars. By myself I stand on the deck, play my guitar and sometimes write songs. I feel stupid feeling this way, because it's not that we're moving, and the new kitchen is going to be magnificent. But still, THE deck. Once we get to the "new normal" I'm always great with it, but the moment before the transition, I'm a mess. And the dumpster's going to be late. Is that a bad omen? Maybe I'll use the time to play a few more songs.

Aw, it is kind of sad. Many good times on that deck. :-( Great pics!! Oh, and your demolition woke me up this morning. Thanks. ;-)
ReplyDeleteWoke you up? But they didn't arrive until...oh never mind... :-D
ReplyDeleteAfter Katie came home from school she got all sad. "They're taking apart the DECK!" "Er, yup." A little girl's world has gone all ka-flooie.
